How It All Started

Hey guys and gals! I'm Nick Wheeler, formerly of Southern Illinois where I started and shaped my craft for the last 17 years. I started out helping out the old man (Dad) with sessions during my senior year of high school. My Dad had just started professionally full time photographing and he was starting to get a client base and was getting busier. The last thing as a high school kid that i wanted to do was work with my Dad. I mean come on, i worked at the local car stereo shop, the coolest place for a kid to work lol. So my Dad and the sneaky mind that he has decided to call on me to help when he was having a pretty high school senior to photograph. So you all know that worked I mean they were the same age as me and all dolled up smiling at me all the time hehe. But as I was helping hold reflectors and setting up lighting, I started to voice an idea I would have on how to approach the shot. Every time without a beat he would say, "Here, take the camera and show me." From there I was hooked!!! Having the God given ability to compose an image and see the light was mine for the taking. It was no longer about being around pretty girls, but about creating art that originated in my mind and seeing it come out as I envisioned.

From there I became our Senior Portrait Artist for years and added on photographing Weddings after that. My first wedding I was thrown into because the Bride's photographer bailed on them two days before the wedding date. We had a wedding booked already but Dad told them "Nick can do it, he hasn't ever done one by himself but I have no doubt he can handle it." The confidence he showed in me that day and after has given me the confidence to tackle every type of photography job that was needed by our clients. From Product Photography to creating unique Children Portrait sets and so on. 

 

Why I Do, What I Do

Today thanks to my family and especially my Dad and other top photography mentors from around the globe, I am a true seasoned veteran with the passion of a young man just starting out. When we get into your session and start creating there's just a different feeling and mindset that takes over and I have to watch myself and make sure I don't overshoot from all the excitement and ideas coming to me. On a personal note, I am the father of 3 beautiful children and about to make it 4! I know I've gone mad :)!!! I not only love my family but also use my love for photography to put food on our table and a roof over our heads so be reassured you will always get my best even if it's one of those days where Soren (my daughter) pours my Diet Mt. Dew in my shoe and I don't realize it until it's too late!

A detailed consultation about our shoot, with a in-home viewing and designing session. We will professionally decorate your home with the best products that are available from my exclusive professional lab! Not only that, when your wall portraits come in, I will hand deliver them personally and if you so desire, custom install them in your home for you at no extra charge! It's kind of like getting your brand new car washed before you drive off the lot and show it off lol.
